Drug Abuse Prevention In Texas
Programs
In Texas, the schools have started participating in the drug abuse
prevention programs. These schools use programs like “Too Good for Drugs”
which is recognized by the US substance abuse and health service
administration as a representation program. The Texas Commission that
works on Alcohol and Drug Abuse supports such programs by funding them.
Mendez Foundation’s ‘Too Good For Drugs’ program focuses mainly on high
school students. This program is designed for students from kindergarden
to the 12th standard and the curriculum basically is designed to develop:
Interpersonal and personal skills.
Suitable attitude towards tobacco, alcohol and illegal drug use.
Knowledge of the harmful consequences of alcohol, drug and tobacco usage
and understand the benefits of drug fee life.
These programs encourage the students to bond well with their peers,
through cooperative learning, small group activities and class
discussions. Students have opportunities to participate and involve
themselves in such programs that indirectly reduce their intent to smoke
cigarettes, drink alcohol etc.
