Drug Addiction in Texas
Frequency
People generally view drug abuse or addiction as a social problem,
where the community categorizes the drug addicts as people who are morally
weak or have criminal tendencies. They believe that the drug abusers
should be able to stop taking drugs if they have a will to change their
behavior.
These are just myths; people should understand that drug addiction is a
health issue and the entire community and the families concerned should
help the addicts. Addiction is a chronic disease that relapses, but it is
100% treatable.
Addiction generally does not begin with drug abuse or when a person makes
conscious effort to use drugs; it begins with excessive usage. At some
point, the drugs cause changes in the brain that can turn the drug abuse
into severe drug addiction, thus increasing the craving for more and they
can’t quit on their own. Treatment becomes necessary to stop this
addiction that causes compulsive behavior.
