Codeine
A drug which can be extracted from opium is codeine. It is also known as methyl
morphine. It is a medicine used as an analgesic,antitussive and antidiarrheal. It
is also mixed and prepared in combination with paracetamol i.e. with aspirin,
co-codasprin or with ibuprofen, because it gives great pain relief than any
other drug.
Codeine is a stimulant which tends to offset the sedative effect at times. This
also increases the effectiveness and absorption rate of analgesic in some
circumstances. It is also available in liquid or as cough relief formulations.
Internationally codeine is a schedule II drug.
