Dosage of Remifentanil

For better effectiveness, Remifentanil is administered as an intravenous injection. The following are the doses that are prescribed:

  1.  Dosage for adults – In adults Remifentanil is always intravenously administered in the form of an infusion of 0.1 to 0.5 micrograms per kilogram, which is administered per minute. Under clinical settings, the dosage prescribed for sedation will be 0.025 to 0.1 micrograms per kilogram per minute. For the sake of inducing and maintaining general anesthesia, the dosage is higher, up to 0.1 to 1 microgram per kilogram per minute.
  2.  Dosage for children – Children are prescribed higher rates of infusion of Remifentanil. The usually prescribed dosage for them is up to 1 microgram per kilogram per minute.
The dosage of Remifentanil administered intravenously will depend on the patient's case, such as the acuteness of the medical condition and the extent to which the surgical procedure will be invasive. Age of the patient is also a factor that is taken into consideration.
