Administration/Dosage of Tramadol
Tramadol is available in the form of tablets that must be taken orally.
The tablets are generically available under various brand names. Dosages for
adults and children are different. For adults, the dosage ranges between 100
and 400 milligrams per day. The dosage is age-sensitive. People who are
above 75 years of age must not take more than 300 milligrams in a day.
For children, the dosage is prescribed by the healthcare professional on a
case to case basis. The administration might require special care.
Tramadol must never be taken without a medium, because it can cause stomach
upsets. Commonly used vehicles for Tramadol are milk, or food. Even
swallowing the tablet with water can reduce the side-effects.
Tramadol must not be taken in excess of the prescribed dosage. If a
particular dose is missed, it must be taken as soon as possible. But if it
time for the next dose, then the dosage must not be doubled to make up for a
missed dose. Taking Tramadol in excess causes drastic side-effects.
